Where To Start with Schools and More

Teaching Your Kids at Home

Many life lessons learned at home by homeschooled kids are, sad to say, not being taught in schools. In school, children learn to be good at academics, at math, science, history, and other subjects but they are lacking in teaching them lessons in life.

Many schools do not each life lessons and so their graduates end up not knowing how to live life as a grownup. As homeschooling parents, we should be thankful that we have the opportunity to share life lessons with our children as well as lessons from the books.

Here are some examples of life lessons that you can teach your children at home.

Sure we have home economics classes in school, but this is not enough to help the child live and fend for himself. It is the privilege of homeschooling parents to be able to teach their children how to cook and clean and use these lessons in real life.

Don’t clean up after children but encourage them to clean as they go. Cleaning up as part of the lesson will soon be brought out of the school setting and bring it with them as a habit through life.

Teaching children how to budget is also important. People who get themselves into financial trouble have never been taught to budget. Schools teach math which includes money but students are never taught about budgeting. The problems lie here.

Budgeting can be taught through certain activities. You can use play money and a play till, and acting out shopping experience. Budgeting can also be taught in real experiences like shopping at child friendly places like Anthill shop N play. If you give each one money to buy items, then they will start learning how to budget their money to be able to buy everything that they need. Give them an allowance good for a month and see how they fare in budgeting. With only one month to last, they can spend their money on food, toys, activities and other things.

Self care is seldom taught in school although they teach children to eat healthy and stay active. This is why many children don’t know how to take care of themselves.

Teaching meditation is a good way for children to learn how to calm their minds and relax them. They can use deep breathing to reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It is important that children learn to express their feelings in many different ways like art and other means.

As a homeschooling parents you have the opportunity to educate your children on these things. They will have better chances of a happier and more successful future.
